Academics

Achievement

We use a variety of standardized tests as a form of external accountability to ensure that we continue to provide an excellent program for every student.

MAP (K-9):  The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is designed by the Northwest Evaluation Association to provide continuous formative and summative assessments to teachers and parents about student progress. MAP is a computer adaptive test that adjusts to each student's abilities, providing questions of varying degrees of challenge according to the students' responses. This online test is used three times a year to assess growth in Language, Reading, and Math.

PSAT (Grade 10): The PSAT is a college readiness test given to sophomores in the Spring that measures skills needed for college success, including reading comprehension, writing and math.

SAT (Grade 11):  The SAT is a college readiness test taken by juniors in the Spring. It is a standardized exam that assesses college readiness.

University Acceptance:  In recent years, over 90% of our graduates have gone on to a variety of Christian or secular colleges including Cornerstone University, Ferris University, Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University, Indiana Wesleyan, Michigan State, Spring Arbor, the University of Michigan, and many more.

Enrichment

Advanced Placement:  High school students who have the ability and inclination to take more challenging courses that can lead to college credit can take AP classes in English and American History. Other courses will be added as enrollment permits.

Dual Enrollment: A number of juniors and seniors enrich their high school experience through dual enrollment online with Grand Rapids Community College
or one of the nearby colleges or universities. They can also complete high school credits in specialized courses at Kent County Technical Center.

Online Electives:
High school students are encouraged to explore their personal interests by choosing one or more of the dozens of online electives available through Ignitia.

Support

We understand and appreciate that God has designed each individual with unique skills and talents, and we recognize that every child learns in different ways and often at their own pace. While teachers are able to accommodate most children in the regular classrooms through the use of differentiated instruction, there are many children that need some extra assistance in certain subjects or at certain times along the way to graduation.

Whenever possible, we schedule time for students who need support to receive small group tutoring from one of our classroom teachers. Sometimes these sessions are instead of the regular classroom instruction, and sometimes they are in addition to it. Either way, the goal is to provide the necessary support so that all students can develop the knowledge and skills that will help them succeed. The needs are as varied as the children who come, so each child has a program that fits his or her unique needs.

“Children are a reward from him” Psalm 127:3b
